Got a Tip?

Daniel Clowes Says ‘Wilson’ With Woody Harrelson Is Coming This Fall; Listen To His Full 107-Minute WTF Podcast Talk

The fall film schedule is starting to take shape. Last night, Paramount confirmed the new title of Denis Villeneuve’s sci-fi pic “Arrival” with Amy Adams and its release date (November 11th), and this morning, Damien Chazelle’s musical “La La Land” was unveiled as the Venice Film Festival opener.

Well, there’s one more picture we can add to the list. On the recent “WTF Podcast with Marc Maron,” cartoonist, author and screenwriter Daniel Clowes (“Ghost World,” “Art School Confidential”) revealed his upcoming film “Wilson” (adapted from his own graphic novel) is coming “in the fall.”

That’s little to go by, but at least it’s something you can peg for your most-anticipated list. “I always start with an off-putting guy like Wilson and my goal is to find a way to love him by the end of the book,” Clowes said about the character.

Directed by Craig Johnson (2014’s acclaimed indie “The Skeleton Twins“), the comedy/drama stars Woody Harrelson, Laura Dern, Isabella Amara, Judy Greer and Cheryl Hines. Fox Searchlight is releasing the picture, with Alexander Payne as one of the producers, and while there’s no official word yet, we’d expect it to hit the fall film-festival circuit before it goes into theatrical release. Which one? Your guess is as good as ours, but Telluride does love Payne (who was originally scheduled to direct the picture), so maybe there’s connective tissue there.

Extra bonuses? Jon Brion is composing the score and Frederick Elmes (“Wild At Heart,” Jim Jarmusch’s “Night On Earth”) is the director of photography. Below, you can find some set pictures captured on Twitter. There’s not a lot of movie talk, but even if you’re mildly interested in Clowes, his art and his graphic-novel work, the ‘WTF’ podcast is a must listen.
