Got a Tip?

Daniel Craig To Star In Filmmaker Todd Field’s ‘The Creed Of Violence’

Despite the fact that his upcoming James Bond swansong keeps getting delayed, actor Daniel Craig isn’t content with just sitting around in his expertly tailored tuxedo while the studio figures out what’s next. No, sir. Instead, Craig filmed “Knives Out” with ‘Last Jedi’ director Rian Johnson, and has already signed on to his first post-Bond role, which for film fans, might be the most exciting project the actor currently has on his slate.

According to Collider, Daniel Craig has agreed to star in the upcoming film “The Creed of Violence,” from acclaimed director Todd Field. The actor will portray the character Rawbone, who teams up with a fellow named John Lourdes, as they both travel from Texas to Mexico to stop a smuggling ring during the Mexican Revolution in 1910.

As Playlist readers probably already know, Todd Field is one of the best directors working today, albeit “working today” is a bit of a misnomer. The filmmaker made a huge splash with his Oscar-nominated debut film “In the Bedroom.” He then followed that up with another critically-acclaimed and Oscar-nominated film, “Little Children.” However, since those 2001 and 2006 films, respectively, Field has been MIA (aka in “director’s jail”) for over a decade as he’s seen project after project come and go with little traction.

Now, with Craig aboard “The Creed of Violence,” it would appear that there’s some great momentum behind Field’s latest project. Perhaps, finally, the filmmaker will come back with a film that will remind everyone why he’s one of the most unique voices in film today. This isn’t the first time that Craig and Field were attempting to work together. One of Field’s many projects to stall out was a TV series titled “Purity,” which would have starred Craig.

Unfortunately, there’s still plenty of time for this latest project to fall apart. You see, now that Craig is finishing up “Knives Out,” his next project is the oft-delayed Cary Fukunaga-directed James Bond film. Then, once he finally finishes Bond, he can tackle Field’s film. And as you probably know by now, when the Bond franchise is involved, there’s plenty of room for catastrophe, so let’s not throw a celebratory parade for Field, yet.

That being said, if everything goes as planned, Craig and Field will circle back sometime in 2020 to begin production on “The Creed of Violence.” Fingers crossed.
