Got a Tip?

Danny Boyle Says He Wants To Make ‘Trainspotting 2’ Next

nullFor the past few years, a 2016 shoot for the long-developing "Trainspotting 2" has been the goal. A script by longtime Danny Boyle collaborator John Hodge, based on Irvine Welsh‘s book "Porno," is ready to go and so too is the director. But as he revealed over the weekend at Telluride, where he presented a "work-in-progress" screening of "Steve Jobs" (our review), castmembers are also game to make the sequel. Right now it’s all a matter of sorting out calendars.

“All the four main actors want to come back and do it, and so now it is only a matter of getting all their schedules together which is complicated by two of them doing American TV series,” Boyle told Deadline, referring to Robert Carlyle ("Once Upon A Time") and Jonny Lee Miller ("Elementary"). Things probably could’ve been even trickier had Ewen Bremner‘s "Banished" not been canceled.

Should all the scheduling work out, the next question to be answered will be whether or not Boyle can recapture the energy of the first film, which was a touchstone for an entire generation, with posters from the film pasted up in dorm rooms, and the hit soundtrack heard everywhere during the late ’90s. But Boyle is never one to be underestimated and it’ll be interesting to see his way back into that world and these characters. And if "Trainspotting 2" doesn’t work out, the director does have a couple of period pieces also in the works that he could turn to.
