Get ready for a basketball version of “The Blind Side.” Danny Trejo has acquired the rights to the story of Utah Jazz player Paul Millsap and his uncle/agent DeAngelo Simmons to bring their rags-to-riches to the story to the big screen.
The film, titled “Ambition,” will shoot later this year and will start with Simmons’ own faded sports aspirations until “his sister moved back to Louisiana with four sons she needed to keep away from the streets. She asked Simmons to teach them basketball, and when Paul Millsap grew into a 6’8”, 250 pound rebounding machine, Simmons learned to become a sports agent and brokered a four-year, $32 million deal for his power forward nephew.” Trejo met Simmons on the set of the film “Vengeance” and the next thing you know, the two decided to make a film together.
Trejo will be self-financing the film but there’s no word on a screenwriter, director or cast at this time.
