‘Daredevil: Born Again’: Marvel Exec Talks Differences Between New Show & Old Netflix Series

Despite having quite a bit of behind-the-scenes drama, fans are still really excited for Marvel Studios’ “Daredevil: Born Again.” In fact, you could say that fans are actually more excited because of the drama. That’s because midway through filming, Marvel decided to start from scratch and incorporate more of what made “Daredevil” popular on Netflix. But according to one of the Marvel executives, ‘Born Again’ is still a bit different than what was seen in previous seasons of the show.

Speaking as part of the Official Marvel Podcast, the Head of Marvel Streaming, Television and Animation, Brad Winderbaum, talked about what fans can expect from “Daredevil: Born Again.” He said that the people are very much the same characters, but things have changed since we last saw them butt heads on Netflix.

“These characters have matured. The universe is different than it was,” he explained. “Things have changed. Society has changed. Matt [Murdock] and Wilson [Fisk] have changed, and their characters are going to collide in ways we’ve never seen before. It’s no longer enough to try to murder each other. There’s a whole game of politics at play.”

The politics at play are reportedly set to be about Wilson Fisk, played by Vincent D’Onofrio, running for Mayor of New York City. As you might imagine, that will rub Matt Murdock, played by Charlie Cox, the wrong way.

Speaking of Cox and D’Onofrio, they were recently at a convention (via Comicbook.com), and Cox talked about the aforementioned changes midway through the production of ‘Born Again.’ He applauded the ability of Marvel Studios to “correct course” when they realized that the show wasn’t working like they wanted.

“Marvel had been incredibly open-minded and willing to correct course, and incredibly supportive,” Cox said. “Early on, we were trying something that was a bit different, and very quickly they were able to identify that wasn’t maybe working as well as it could’ve done. Where we are now, I think I can speak for both of us that we feel very happy.”

We are still months away from seeing “Daredevil: Born Again” arrive on Disney+, but it’s difficult not to be excited by the comments made from the people involved. It really does seem as if they’ve corrected course and are ready to deliver something that fans will really love.
