Writer Jeremy Slater is no stranger to the world of superheroes and specifically Marvel Comics properties, having spearheaded the “Moon Knight” series starring Oscar Isaac that aired on Disney+ and was involved with the final “Fantastic Four” iteration at 20th Century Fox before this upcoming reboot from director Matt Shakman coming to theaters in July.
The “Mortal Kombat 2” and “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” screenwriter recently spoke with ComicBook about the possibility of his involvement with a second season of “Moon Knight” (season two has been long teased online but hasn’t been made official by either Disney or Marvel) but don’t hold your breath as Slater admittedly hasn’t talked to Marvel in years and suggests he wouldn’t be involved in a new run of episodes.

“Oh, God, I have no idea. If we do, I probably would not be involved. I am trying to launch my directing career…TV takes you off the board for two or three years. If there is another ‘Moon Knight,’ the ball is in Kevin Feige and Oscar Isaac’s court. I don’t know the details of their contract. Once Kevin figures out the best way to use that character, what is the right story, and who are the right storytellers to bring that to life, I would be shocked if we didn’t see him again at some point. But that’s me speculating as a fan. I have no inside knowledge. I haven’t talked to anyone at Marvel in a couple of years.”
It remains to be seen if we’ll end up seeing Isaac reprising the supernatural hero for the upcoming “Avengers” sequels, as Slater points out, Slater doesn’t have any insider information on that front.
While Slater isn’t leaving the door open for a follow-up series to “Moon Knight,” he does go on to muse about turning Chris Claremont‘s United Kingdom-based “X-Men” offshoot team “Excalibur,” led by Captain Britain (Braddock was briefly referenced in “Avengers: Endgame“), being primed for a series incarnation over a feature film.
“‘Excalibur’ was the weirdest and the most creative. It’s such an insane book. Nightcrawler and Kitty Pryde are my two favorite ‘X-Men,’ so the idea of doing something with the two of them and setting it against this multi-versal backdrop of the Warwolves, and they had a great villains roster. They were creative and unafraid to be weird. And the soap-opera dynamics of the characters were really fun and really juicy. I felt like Excalibur wouldn’t work as a movie, but as an ongoing TV show, it could have been something so special. That’s always the one that got away for me,” Slater told ComicBook.
Some of the Marvel Comics team’s roster that fight traditional, supernatural, and extraterrestrial threats include Nightcrawler, Captain Britain’s sister Betsy Braddock (a British spy before the Psylocke transformation), Rachel Summers, Kitty Pryde/Shadowcat, Lockheed, Juggernaut, and Colossus.
With the “X-Men” firmly in the hands of Marvel Studios with “Deadpool & Wolverine” being a huge hit, Ryan Reynolds reportedly developing a mystery mutant crossover project, and their “X-Men” reboot on the horizon with director Jake Schreier (“Thunderbolts/The New Avengers”) said to be in talks, more mutant projects like “Excalibur” are just assumed to be considered as Disney+ series fodder.
Only time will tell if we’re going to get more mutant-focused shows on the streaming platform beyond “X-Men ’97” or even more Moon Knight.
