“Some men find creation in destruction. Others just want to watch the world burn.” That’s the new, totally original tagline of “Daredevil” season three because you’ve never heard an iconic line from a bad guy talking about just wanting to watch the world burn. Taking place months after the end of “Defenders,” (where a tower collapsed and everyone assumed Daredevil was dead), “Daredevil” Season 3 looks to have Wilson Fisk, aka the Kingpin, return in a big, big way.
After actor Vincent D’Onofrio stole the show in Season 1 and his all-too-brief appearance in Season 2, it appears that he is making a big comeback in the upcoming Season 3 according to the new teaser. And judging by the teaser (and the ending of “The Defenders”), it seems as if Marvel TV and Netflix are about to unleash the greatest “Daredevil” storyline from the comics, “Born Again.”
For those unfamiliar with the comics, “Born Again” was written by Frank Miller and showed what would happen when Wilson Fisk learned Daredevil’s identity as Matt Murdock. Instead of just killing him instantly, he systematically drives Murdock insane by destroying everything he loves. Daredevil loses his job, his home, his friends and family, and eventually, his sanity. It’s an incredible character study that is rarely seen in superhero storytelling. And if the story is adapted correctly, it could be an incredible season of TV.
Of course, this is Netflix and Marvel, so the idea of “incredible seasons of TV” is almost a silly idea. But hey, it could happen!
Official synopsis:
Missing for months, Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) reemerges a broken man, putting into question his future as both vigilante Daredevil and lawyer Matthew Murdock. But when his archenemy Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) is released from prison, Matt must choose between hiding from the world or embracing his destiny as a hero.
“Daredevil” Season 3 arrives on Netflix October 19 and yes, in case you’re wondering, Bullseye appears.
