When you think of the Mount Rushmore directors of horror, names like Wes Craven, John Carpenter, and George A. Romero all come to mind immediately. But also, you’re likely going to name Dario Argento, as well. And now, the iconic filmmaker, known for his giallo horror films of the ‘70s and ‘80s, is returning for the first time in a decade with a new directorial outing, “Dark Glasses.”
As seen in the new trailer for “Dark Glasses,” the film follows the story of a woman who was blinded by a botched attack from a serial killer. In her quest for revenge, she finds herself teaming up with another survivor, a young Chinese boy who also wants to make sure the serial killer is dealt with. And as you might expect, Argento’s latest is clearly in the giallo subgenre, as is what fans were hoping to see.
The new Argento feature stars Ilenia Pastorelli, Asia Argento (obviously), and Andrea Zhang. Casting aside, “Dark Glasses” is on everyone’s radar because it serves as the first feature from director Dario Argento since 2012’s “Dracula 3D.” And let’s just say that fans are hoping we’re in for something more akin to his legendary films such as “Suspiria,” “Deep Red,” “Tenebrae,” and “The Bird with the Crystal Plumage,” than we are for his more later work.
“Dark Glasses” is expected to have its world premiere at the upcoming Berlin International Film Festival. A worldwide release has yet to be announced. You can watch the new trailer below:
