Got a Tip?

David Fincher Directed A New Anheuser-Busch Super Bowl Ad Showing The Power Of Sharing A Beer

When you look at the IMDB filmography of David Fincher, you might be shocked to know that the filmmaker has 93 directing credits to his name. That is an absolutely astonishing number of projects for someone that you necessarily don’t think of as a highly prolific creator. However, when you glance and see that a vast majority of his credits came before “Se7en” in 1995, you quickly realize that for the better part of the late-‘80s/early-‘90s, Fincher was doing a ton of music videos and commercials. Well, in 2021, Fincher might be best known for his feature films by now, but he still has time to do the occasional ad, such as with his new Anheuser-Busch Super Bowl ad.

As seen in the new ad for the beer company, Fincher’s “Let’s Grab a Beer” spot is 90 seconds of various characters in various jobs and life situations commiserating over a beer. Whether it’s after a funeral, losing your job, making a mistake in a concert, or during a fight with your partner, Anheuser-Busch would love for you to believe that one way to help come together again is with the power of a cold beer. As someone who doesn’t drink, I always tend to think that speaking rationally and calmly, explaining your positions, not bottling things up inside, and always being truthful about your emotions are always good options, when a beer might not be in the refrigerator and you need to work through some issues. But hey, you do you.

As mentioned, this is far from the first time Fincher has directed commercials. He’s worked with major brands such as Coca-Cola, Levi’s, Nike, Hewlett-Packard, and Calvin Klein in the past. And maybe this is just because we know that Fincher was the filmmaker of this beer ad, but you can’t help but immediately be drawn to the camera movements and the technical aspects of the filmmaking that went into it. Sure, it’s a beer commercial, but it’s incredibly well-made and cinematic, if nothing else.
