While Chad Stahelski has been content to stay in the “John Wick” universe ever since he launched the franchise in 2014, his co-director David Leitch has done anything but stay planted. Having already directed five movies since—running the gambit of franchises among them like “Deadpool 2,” “Hobbes And Shaw” and this summer’s “The Fall Guy”—for his next magic trick, stunt director turned filmmaker David Leitch will be turning his attention to the new “Jurassic World” trilogy that Universal is very bullish on.

Written by David Koepp, the original “Jurassic Park” screenwriter Leitch has come on board to direct his script, and Universal has already dated it for July 2, 2025, according to Deadline. And yes, it’s apparently a reboot with a fresh take on the Jurassic-verse series. “Jurassic World” cast members Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard are not expected to return; neither are the original trilogy’s actors Jeff Goldblum, Laura Dern, and Sam Neil.
Not many other details are known, but executive producers on the project include Steven Spielberg through Amblin Entertainment. Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley will produce alongside David Leitch and Kelly McCormick through 87North.
There have been six “Jurassic” films so far in the series, and they have hauled in $6 billion worldwide. Four of the six films have grossed over $1 billion each, so it’s no surprise that Universal is all about getting this gravy train running again. The latest trilogy is definitely the biggest of the performers and pretty much in the order of release, “Jurassic World” grossed $1.6 billion in 2015, ‘Fallen Kingdom’ earned $1.3 billion in 2018, and the final installment, ‘Dominion,’ hauled in just over $1 billion in the summer of 2022.
No cast has been set, and no other details are available, but so far, there is no direct competition at the box office on that July 2, 2025, weekend. But it gets competitive fast. “Moana” opens the previous weekend on June 27, 2025, and James Gunn’s “Superman: Legacy” is scheduled to open the weekend on July 11. After that, it’s Marvel’s “Thunderbolts” on July 25. Now that a giant T-Rex has planted a flag, will anyone push off their release dates? Let’s wait and see. [Deadline]
