Production Weekly has twittered that Tarsem’s forthcoming “Caravaggio meets ‘Fight Club'” mythology Royal Rumble “Dawn Of War,” (aka “War Of Gods” — the title seems to be fluctuating depending on the source) has been set for a Veteran’s Day 2011 release (aka 11/11/11 which will look aesthetically pleasing on a movie poster). No word yet if the irony is intentional.
The film, starring Henry Cavill, Mickey Rourke, Frieda Pinto and Kellan Lutz follows a young warrior Theseus (Cavill) who leads his men into battle with the immortal Greek gods to defeat evil elder gods of the Titans in order to save mankind. Lutz is confirmed to be playing Poseidon but no word yet on what roles the other actors will fill.
Filming gets under way next month in Montreal, but no official word yet on whether or not it will be in 3D. Filming was originally set to begin in March when it was briefly postponed as producers mulled over whether or not to 3D it. However, with a release date poised just a couple of weeks before Thanksgiving, it’s clear that Universal expects big things and as such, we won’t be surprised if this gets the post-production 3D treatment.
