“Booster Gold”
Starring: TBD
Directed by: Greg Berlanti
The Latest: Using the term “latest” when describing the “Booster Gold” film seems a bit generous. Originally announced in 2016, with Greg Berlanti confirming he was attached to write-direct the feature — he being the mastermind behind the entire CW Arrowverse, and thus one of the most powerful showrunners on TV right now —there’s been very little word around “Booster Gold.” Shortly after the initial announcement, it was reported that Berlanti’s film would be in a different continuity than the DCEU. Considering the storyline features an unlikeable narcissist that comes from the future, using future tech and his knowledge of events, to make himself seem like Earth’s greatest hero, it wouldn’t be difficult to make this a solo film with no DC ties. But since that report in late-2016, mum’s the word regarding “Booster Gold.”
Odds of Release: 7%. While the character is decidedly C-list, at best, it’s hard to imagine “Booster Gold” is any sort of priority for WB/DC. However, with Berlanti aboard (according to him, it’s still in development), it could happen. The filmmaker may have struck out as the writer of 2011’s “Green Lantern,” and all his feature films are terrible outside of “Love, Simon,” but he has clout thanks to the CW DC Universe (as largely awful as it is).

“Gotham City Sirens”
Starring: Margot Robbie
Directed by: David Ayer
The Latest: “Suicide Squad” was a box office success and launched speculation about a variety of spin-off properties. The most in-demand character breaking off from the ‘Squad’ appeared to be Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn. Featured in numerous films on this list, Harley was poised to become one of the biggest names in the DC film universe. It was quickly announced that David Ayer, director of “Suicide Squad,” wouldn’t return for a sequel, and would instead focus his energies on “Gotham City Sirens.” The film is named after a comic book that focused on the female baddies of Batman’s hometown. Harley Quinn, Catwoman, Poison Ivy, and others would be featured, as the film would become a female “Suicide Squad”-esque team-up flick. However, with Robbie moving onto “Birds of Prey,” and Ayer seemingly done with the DCEU, it looks like this film is just another “What if?” situation.
Odds of Release: 5%. Look, “Birds of Prey” has essentially killed “Gotham City Sirens” and so apparently did the “Harley And Joker” spin-off movie. That said, WB and Robbie like Ayer and if “Birds Of Prey” becomes a hit, maybe, just maybe they can use some of the ‘GCS’ characters and ideas and spin them off into a sequel? Doubtful, but you never know.

“Deathstroke”
Starring: Joe Manganiello
Directed by: TBD, though Gareth Evans has confirmed talks
The Latest: Back in October 2017, with “Justice League” just around the corner, it was reported that Gareth Evans, of “The Raid” fame, would helm a “Deathstroke” film with Joe Manganiello attached to star as the titular villain/anti-hero. Before then, it was rumored that fans would see Deathstroke make an appearance as a villain in “The Batman,” back with Affleck was attached, and perhaps in another film. Later, it was shown that Deathstroke would have his big-screen debut in the post-credits scene of “Justice League,” opening the door to the solo film. However, with the box office disappointment of ‘League,’ “Deathstroke” discussions seemed to stop. Manganiello is still beating the drum, hoping against all odds that he’ll get to revisit the character in the future, but Evans recently stated that development has apparently ceased and he hasn’t heard any updates in a long time.
Odds of Release: 5%. Sorry, Joe Manganiello, you seem like a great guy and a true fan of the character, but being attached to “Justice League” in any way, especially in a bad post-credits scene, has all but doomed the potential of a feature film. It would take something truly incredible for the film to actually happen. But keep the faith, Mr. Manganiello, stranger things have happened!

“Cyborg”
Starring: Ray Fisher
Directed by: TBD
The Latest: Oh, poor, poor Ray Fisher. The stage actor signed the supposed deal of a lifetime when he was cast as Victor Stone, aka Cyborg, for the highly-anticipated “Justice League.” WB/DC was so amped for the cybernetic hero, the studio announced a solo film with a potential 2020 release date back in 2014. Everything seemed to be going great, until “Justice League” was approaching theaters. As bad buzz built, the “Cyborg” solo film became less and less likely. The character was even rumored to play a buddy role in the “Flash” film that was set to hit theaters in 2018. But then when “Justice League” stunk up the place, a solo “Cyborg” film became a cute reminder of WB/DC’s overly ambitious planning. That being said, poor, poor Ray Fisher still holds out hope that the company will shell out $200 million to make his solo film a reality.
Odds of Release: 5%. The only thing the film has going for it at this point is the “Teen Titans GO!” animated series has given younger audiences a Cyborg that they enjoy. And live-action superhero fans seemed to be lukewarm-to-positive on his appearance in “Justice League.” So, if WB/DC has some sort of major hot streak of films, the studio could potentially give “Cyborg” another shot. But let’s not get Fisher’s hopes up too much, okay?

“Justice League Dark”
Starring: TBD
Directed by: TBD
The Latest: Work on “Justice League Dark” predates even the regular “Justice League” film. Back in 2012, it was reported that filmmaker Guillermo del Toro would helm ‘Dark,’ which is based on a comic book series that follows a group of fringe superheroes that use magic and dark arts to fight evil. As the title describes, it’s like “Justice League” but…dark. For three years, fans wondered if the film would ever see the light of day, with del Toro providing semi-annual updates. However, in mid-2015, it was reported that del Toro left but the film was still in development. Filmmakers like Joseph Kahn and Doug Liman were reportedly signed on, over the next year or so, but both would eventually leave. Most recently, Kahn released some test footage and concept art for his version of the film, but there hasn’t been any real news on the film since mid-2017.
Odds of Release: 1%. Before fans get upset about us giving “Justice League Dark” such low odds of being made, let us explain. With “Justice League” bombing, all the films attached to that version of the DCEU have been almost completely pushed aside. So the odds of any film with the words “Justice League” in the title being made seem almost non-existent. That being said, characters like Swamp Thing, Zatanna, Phantom Stranger, Deadman, and John Constantine are ripe for adaptation. There’s a very outside chance of ‘Dark’ ever happening, but a spin-off featuring a solo character or a small group of them banding together could be a possibility way down the road.

“Blue Beetle/Booster Gold”
Starring: TBD
Directed by: TBD
The Latest: Bet you don’t remember this one, do you? While the focus seems to have been placed on “Booster Gold” with Greg Berlanti attached, back in 2015, the original plan for Booster was to team him up with his good pal Blue Beetle, in a sort of buddy cop superhero jaunt. It appears that the plan for the team-up is dead right now, but there’s still a chance for Blue Beetle to spin-off into his own film, albeit that seems a bit far-fetched right now. Rumors have been circulating around the ol’ watercooler that if a “Blue Beetle” film gets a development deal, the story will focus on the newest Beetle, Jamie Reyes, and not the most popular iteration of the character, Ted Kord. Taking cues from “Spider-Man: Homecoming,” the young Jamie Reyes could have a feature film similar to what Marvel Studios is doing with their wallcrawler. But again, don’t pencil this one in anytime soon.
Odds of Release: 1%. At this point, while there’s scuttlebutt that “Blue Beetle” is being discussed, it’s highly unlikely at this point.
