While it might seem that Warner Bros. and DC Films are greenlighting everything under the sun at the moment, it appears they do have some measure of consideration before flipping the switch. Long before the DCEU train started flying around the tracks, the studio was keen on making “Justice League Dark,” and had Guillermo Del Toro to make the movie. Eventually, he moved on and mini merry-go-round of the filmmakers kicked the tires including Fede Alvarez (“Evil Dead,” “Don’t Breathe”), Aharon Keshales and Navot Papushado (“Big Bad Wolves“), and Doug Liman who quickly signed on and just as quickly bailed.
Now, WB/DC are starting over, with Justin Kroll of Variety tweeting the news last night:
JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK update: Studio Back to work on script after recent presentations by directors underwhelmed execs

It’s not a huge surprise considering WB/DC have already been in no rush to get the antihero supernatural hero team-up movie featuring Det. John Constantine, Swamp Thing, Deadman, Zatanna, and Etrigan the Demon off the ground. It was only recently that names like Andy Muschietti (“It“), Damián Szifron (“Wild Tales“), Daniel Espinosa (“Safe House,” “Life“) and Gerard Johnstone (“Housebound“) were said to be in the mix of possible directors, however, it sounds like WB/DC wants a fresh take. It also sounds like Del Toro’s script is now being tossed out the window.
Given the rate at which WB/DC seem to be trying everything and anything they have under their roof, but it’s good to have one project that’s in no rush to hit the big screen.
