'Deadpool 2' Trailer: The Merc With A Mouth Meets Cable

You have it to hand it to Fox. They have been making mutant mega-blockbusters for years now, but have started to take some risks by venture into R-rated territory. 2016’s “Deadpool” was the first venture, and it raked in $783 million at the box office. Not too bad. Fans of the comic series and newcomers alike enjoyed the breezy pace, fourth-wall breaking meta humor, gleefully profane dialogue and violent adult-oriented action that they would not have gotten with other superhero pictures. It was no surprise then that a sequel was immediately ordered.

Like its predecessor, “Deadpool 2” is expected to continue the punk rock atmosphere of the previous film, with constant pop-culture references and tongue-in-cheek jabs at other superhero films. Expanding on the previous entry, the sequel will feature the debut of Cable, Deadpool’s longtime comic-book partner, played by Josh Brolin. Together, the two characters’ opposing personalities will make this sequel “comic book’s equivalent to Rush Hour“, according to Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld.

Deadpool 2” (an official title for this film hasn’t been named, this is used as the placeholder so far) will star Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson, and his alter ego. Also returning for this entry are Morena Baccarin as Wade’s girlfriend Vanessa, T.J. Miller as Wade’s wiseass friend Weasel, and Brianna Hildebrand and Stefan Kapicic as Negasonic Teenage Warhead and Colossus, respectively.  In addition to Cable, new characters include the sleek mercenary Domino, played by “Atlanta” star Zazie Beetz and an unnamed villain, whose role will be played by Jack Kesy. The film is directed by David Leitch, who previously made “John Wick” and “Atomic Blonde“. Here’s the official synopsis:

After surviving a near fatal bovine attack, a disfigured cafeteria chef (Wade Wilson) struggles to fulfill his dream of becoming Mayberry’s hottest bartender while also learning to cope with his lost sense of taste. Searching to regain his spice for life, as well as a flux capacitor, Wade must battle ninjas, the yakuza, and a pack of sexually aggressive canines, as he journeys around the world to discover the importance of family, friendship, and flavor – finding a new taste for adventure and earning the coveted coffee mug title of World’s Best Lover.

“Deadpool 2” opens on May 16th.
