Deadpool & Fred Savage Argue Over Nickelback's Musical Talent In New 'Once Upon...' Trailer

Here are some things we know about Deadpool: He enjoys murdering people (like a lot of people). The hero is known to break the fourth wall and talk directly to the audience. Wade Wilson is full of all sorts of crude and silly jokes. He probably has a bit of a crush on fellow X-person, Colossus. And apparently, we now know he’s one of the biggest Nickelback fans on the planet.

In the latest ad for “Once Upon a Deadpool” (let’s be real, this is far from your typical “ad,” however), the oft-hated Canadian rock band Nickelback takes center stage as Fred Savage and Deadpool argue about the their musical merit. Long story short, Fred Savage calls them over-produced garbage, while Deadpool thinks they’re wildly underrated and people only hate them because it’s cool.

What follows is a laundry list of the many, many accolades that the ‘Back have received over their storied career, as well as an impromptu sing-along, which might be the best/worst thing you’ll see/hear all day. You thought Nickelback was horrible on their own? What’s worse is when you have the sultry sounds of Wade Wilson harmonizing with the little kid from “The Wonder Years” and “The Princess Bride.”

That being said, you can’t help but hand it to the folks at Fox marketing. Once again, after two full films, they’re able to market this character in new and interesting ways. In 2018 alone, we’ve had the regular release of “Deadpool 2,” the “Super Duper” extended cut, and now the PG-13 re-release, and yet, we’re still not sick of the Merc with a Mouth. Hats off, Fox, you’re doing it again.

“Once Upon a Deadpool” hits theaters on December 12.
