Recently, Ryan Reynolds was talking about people he wanted to include in “Deadpool & Wolverine,” and the name Jordan Peele came up. Reynolds didn’t go into any detail about it, but confirmed that the actor-turned-filmmaker was just too busy to even really consider the offer. Well, now we have Shawn Levy talking about the Peele situation, and he adds a bit more context to what they wanted.
Speaking in a new episode of the Happy. Sad. Confused. podcast, Shawn Levy was asked about the news that Jordan Peele had been approached to star in “Deadpool & Wolverine.” And while it never came to be, the filmmaker does explain how they wanted to utilize Peele. Levy said they had a “villain idea” for Peele that was before they got word that Hugh Jackman was going to return.
“We’re just fans of Jordan Peele. He’s just cool. He’s talented in a lot of different things,” said Levy. “Jordan Peele is one of those guys who’s just so good and so unique. I think, at various points, we had him in mind as a villain and then a high-ranking TVA bureaucrat villain… That was just a pie-in-the-sky idea that never came to fruition.”
While Emma Corrin is great in “Deadpool & Wolverine” as Cassandra Nova, it still would have been great to see Peele show up as a villain in the film. He doesn’t do much acting anymore, as his directing and producing work seems to be his first priority, but Peele would have been great in a more evil role.
As for whether or not the dream of Jordan Peele showing up in the ‘Deadpool’ universe is going to eventually happen, Levy said, “Anything is possible.”
“Deadpool & Wolverine” (without Jordan Peele) is in theaters now.
