‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Teaser Trailer: Hugh Jackman & Ryan Reynolds Lead Marvel’s First R-Rated Multiverse Team-Up

More than six years after “Deadpool 2,” the third and belated “Deadpool” movie, now officially titled “Deadpool & Wolverine,” is nearly here. Marvel Studios’ sole 2024 movie, coming in the summer, is also Marvel’s first R-rated movie, and it’ll be the first movie released after the studio’s first flop, “The Marvels,” so a lot is riding on it. Given that, Marvel is pulling out all the stops for it, namely teaming up Ryan Reynolds’ ‘merc with the mouth’ character alongside Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, a role he has seemingly once sworn he was done with. But apparently, the temptation to play the Logan character at least one more time alongside Deadpool in something more akin to a buddy comedy was too enticing to pass up.

Directed by Shawn Levy, who has helmed many films starring both leads and is practically Reynolds’ in-house filmmaker at this point, the movie is credited to a lot of writers, including original “Deadpool” writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, plus Zeb Wells, Ryan Reynolds and Levy (Reynolds also got a writing credit on “Deadpool 2”).

Details have been mostly under wraps, but as the new teaser suggests, it’s a road trip movie that likely leads to a multiverse tale so Deadpool can enter the Marvel Cinematic Universe properly (and probably bring Wolverine with him so Jackman can engage in the last few ‘Avengers’ film and then likely hang up the claws for good).

What does that mean? Well, it’s also one last kick at the can for the 20th Century Fox era of Marvel films in a similar manner that Sony’sSpider-Man: No Way Home” was able to use many “Spider-Man” characters from the original trilogies starring Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield (a litany of “X-Men”-era cameos are expected, potentially Patrick Stewart as Professor X too, but the only confirmed one so far includes Jennifer Garner as Electra).

“Deadpool & Wolverine” includes many characters from the Deadpool universe, including Morena Baccarin as Vanessa, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Karan Soni as Dopinder, Stefan Kapičić as the voice of Colossus, Shioli Kutsuna as Yukio, and Rob Delaney as Peter, a member of Wade Wilson’s ill-fated “X-Force” team.

Emma Corrin and Matthew Macfadyen are also in the movie in undisclosed roles, but the big rumor is the “Succession” star plays one of the Time Keepers from the “Loki” series, which will be explained, in part, how Deadpool goes from the 20th Century Fox universe into the MCU (Owen Wilson’s Mobius character from “Loki” is also rumored to appear).

The teaser only reveals so much, but it’s certainly enough for comic book fans to be excited by. “Deadpool & Wolverine” is scheduled for a July 26, 2024 release. Again, it’s the only Marvel film on the 2024 calendar, and it’s the second to last movie in the MCU’s Phase 5. Watch the first teaser trailer below.
