Got a Tip?

Timothy Olyphant Says There’s “No F—ing Way” A ‘Deadwood’ Film Will Happen

For years, fans of the HBO western series “Deadwood” have been praying for a feature film to end the series. And recently, there was an announcement HBO series was getting new life on the big screen, but it was with “The Sopranos” and not “Deadwood.” Sadly, it looks like with all the talk surrounding a feature film version of “Deadwood,” the stars have yet to align. Literally. And one of those stars recently spoke out, and we’re sorry to say, the prospect of a film just isn’t looking good.

HBO had previously said that creator David Milch was writing a script, and as long as the actors could work it out, they could start filming later this year. But you see, it’s getting the actors together that seems to be the problem. Actor Timothy Olyphant has been making the rounds promoting the upcoming season of “The Santa Clarita Diet,” and while doing so, has been dropping some information about a potential “Deadwood” film.

“I am hopeful,” Olyphant said on “Watch What Happens Live.” “I mean I’m … I’m… I’m a huge fan of David Milch. The man means the world to me. It’s one of the most amazing creative experiences I’ve ever been able to be a part of, and I’d love to be … you know when you do these things you really miss the people. It would just be a lovely excuse to get all those people back together…”

Reading the words on a screen and watching the actor say them live are two different things, however. He says he’s hopeful, but his body language betrays him. You can watch as the actor goes through the quote, his hope fades and reality sets in. Clearly, Olyphant has been asked this quite a few times and has the stock answer ready, but in this interview, he lets his guard down for one quick second.

“That being said, there’s no f–king way it’s ever going to happen,” concluded Olyphant.

And with that, “Deadwood” fans around the world can be heard sobbing.

Of course, this frustration comes from the fact that it’s been years since the series has ended, and the ensemble of actors have moved on from their previous lives on the show. Getting them all together for an extended period of time is proving to be a challenge. Perhaps, an insurmountable one at that.

Entertainment Weekly quickly got a statement from HBO. “We are continuing to try and bring this group of actors together. With varying schedules, it is a challenge, but we are committed to finding a way and making the film,” said the network.

Let’s be honest with ourselves. No one wants to say it’ll never happen. But they sure are bracing everyone for the inevitable disappointment. At least Olyphant was trying to be real with fans.
