Joe Manganiello Will Return As Deathstroke To Join Zack Snyder’s ‘Justice League’ Reshoots

There is plenty of drama to talk about surrounding the Warner Bros. 2017 superhero team-up film “Justice League.” Years’ worth of drama, to be specific. But one of the things that doesn’t get mentioned nearly enough in terms of the fallout of the failure of that film is the fact that so many planned projects that were to spawn from “Justice League” and the remnants of the Snyderverse have been killed off, including a possible “Deathstroke” film starring Joe Manganiello. Well, while the film might not ever happen, the character will be seen again, thanks to those Snyder Cut reshoots.

According to Collider, Zack Snyder is dusting off Deathstroke, played by Manganiello and teased in the end-credits scene of “Justice League,” and putting the character back in his Director’s Cut of “Justice League.” The character’s exact role is unknown, but he joins the highly-publicized reshoots that are said to cost upwards of $70 million and include Ben Affleck, Ray Fisher, Amber Heard, and Jared Leto. Though, as was previously reported, Henry Cavill will not be taking part in any on-set reshoots and there’s no mention about whether or not we’ll see Gal Gadot or Jason Momoa show up on set, though no mention of them is leading people to believe they will not be attending.

The recent news that Leto is returning, combined with the news that Manganiello is coming back, points to the fact that Snyder isn’t just putting together the scraps of his original cut of the film and finishing off some CGI work and releasing it on HBO Max. This is a full-fledged film shoot and will likely expand the scope of “Justice League” well beyond the version that was released in theaters. Maybe, the $70 million price tag will be justified, so to speak?

As mentioned, Manganiello was previously announced as a potential star of his own spinoff superhero film, “Deathstroke,” which at one point had Gareth Evans attached to write and direct. Unfortunately, it appears that progress on that feature has been stalled for quite some time with Evans moving onto other projects. That being said, maybe there’s hope for renewed interest after the Snyder Cut? We’ll have to wait and see.
