Oh hey, another day, and yet another DC Films project to add the kajillion they have in development, they don’t appear to have any rhyme or reason to them. Except this time around, maybe the project is just a massive apology to Joe Manganiello. We’ll explain.
As you’ll recall, the “Magic Mike” star spent plenty of time getting super jazzed and talking about playing Deathstroke in Ben Affleck‘s mooted “The Batman.” Then Batfleck decided not to direct, Matt Reeves took over, but agreed to the gig only if he could overhaul it from scratch. So, out goes the script by Affleck and Geoff Johns, and presumably, Manganiello’s Deathstroke. Well, it doesn’t matter because the character will now get his own movie.
Gareth Evans (“The Raid“) has been tapped to direct “Deathstroke,” and yep, Manganiello will star. It’s all pretty early — contracts have yet to be signed — so there’s no word yet on who will write the film or even if/when it might be released. In fairness, DC did hire a particularly stylish action moviemaker, so that could be a benefit. But other than that, does this character even need an entire movie? It seems anything with a DC stamp has the potential to become a movie these days. Got a pitch? WB and DC will probably listen to it pretty seriously. [THR]
