Delta Airlines Comes To Its Senses, Will Restore Same-Sex Love Scenes From ‘Booksmart’ And ‘Rocketman’

Delta Airlines realized they had made a very stupid mistake and said it will restore the full, very R-rated cuts of both “Booksmart” and “Rocketman,” including the same-sex love scenes in both movies.

Earlier this week it was reported that the airline had censored a key sex scene in “Booksmart” involving two female characters, after a fan tweeted out the information to the film’s director, Olivia Wilde. Wilde noted that the scene had no nudity, but it was cut out regardless. When asked about it by Variety, Wilde said: “There’s censorship airline to airline of films, which there must be some kind of governing board to determine. We rated a certain way. If it’s not X rated, surely it’s acceptable on an airplane.” She continued. “There’s insane violence of bodies being ripped in half, and yet a love scene between two women is censored from the film. And it’s such an integral part of the character’s journey. I don’t understand it. My heart just broke. It’s confusing. I’m trying to get to the bottom of it.” Likewise, it was reported that a love scene in “Rocketman” involving stars Taron Egerton and Richard Madden was edited out.

This Friday it was announced by the airline that it was going to replace the censored versions. “We are immediately putting a new process in place for managing content available through Delta’s in-flight entertainment,” a representative for the airline told Variety. “Studios often provide videos in two forms: a theatrical, original version and an edited version. We selected the edited version and now realize content well within our guidelines was unnecessarily excluded from both films. We are working to make sure this doesn’t happen again.”

At least the airline was quick to respond to its egregious mistake and fixed it. In the meantime, no statement was released on whether the airline would show the Snyder Cut of “Justice League.”
