Demian Bichir Joins Vera Farmiga In Indie-Western 'A Thousand Guns'

Demain Bichir is set to join the cast of Daniel Calparsoro’s indie-western “A Thousand Guns,” which currently has Vera Farmiga attached to star as the female lead.

Probably best known for his portrayal of Fidel Castro in Steven Soderbergh’s “Che” films, Bichir will play an unknown role in the Russell Friedenberg story of a preacher’s wife and her fantastical journey of revenge in a world where “the dead command the living,” whatever that means.

The film is being produced under the Prominent Pictures banner of Paull Cho and Heather Rae — the duo behind the Melissa Leo starrer, “Frozen River” — who specialize in features no greater than $10 million dollars in budget but who are surprisingly attracting relatively big name actors here.

Farmiga, however, seems to be taking the indie road of late, recently wrapping Duncan Jones sci-fi thriller “Source Code”; has Madonna’s period drama “W.E.” forthcoming and will tackle her directorial debut/starring vehicle “Higher Ground” this summer. Bichir has also been taking the independent route, starring and producing in Antonio Serrano’s “Hidalgo-Moliere” as well as Ian Power’s “The Runaway.”
