Got a Tip?

Johnny Depp’s Upcoming Film ‘City Of Lies’ Pulled A Month Before Scheduled Release

Johnny Depp is not having a good 2018, so far. The actor, who has been the subject of controversy recently due to his failed marriage to actress Amber Heard, is scheduled to appear in two major films in the second half of 2018. And according to a new report, one of those is being pulled from the calendar after a string of negative publicity surrounding the actor.

Depp’s upcoming film, “City of Lies,” is being pulled from its upcoming September 7 release date, according to The Hollywood Reporter. There’s no new release date being reported, but THR speculates the move comes from the fact that Depp has been in the news lately for not great reasons.

Back in June, a profile of the actor was released and caused people to raise their eyebrows. In the report, it was shown that Depp may be struggling with addiction issues, as well as huge financial burdens that have left him allegedly broke. Not only that but when the actor showed up at the recent San Diego Comic-Con panel for his upcoming film “Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald,” he was reportedly booed and not accepted by the fans, due to his abuse allegations from Heard.

So, that means Global Road is now pulling “City of Lies,” and the future of the film is uncertain. The film, which stars Depp as a detective attempting to find the truth behind the murders of rappers Tupac and the Notorious B.I.G., was also the source of controversy recently when it was reported that Depp got into an altercation with a crew member.

Last month, a film crew member from “City of Lies” filed a lawsuit alleging that Depp verbally abused him and punched him twice in the ribs. After the assault, the crew member says that Depp, who smelled of alcohol and reportedly seemed intoxicated, yelled at him and offered $100,000 for the crew member to punch the actor in the face. The crew member also alleges that he was fired from the film after he wouldn’t sign an agreement to not sue Depp or the film.

Needless to say, it doesn’t appear that the release date switcheroo has anything to do with the quality of the film, and might just be a result of publicity not being the best right now. Either way, it doesn’t appear that fans will get a chance to check out the film anytime soon.
