We have almost reached 20 years since the release of “The Devil Wears Prada.” And even to this day, we see memes and comments about the modern classic. Well, you know what happens when time has passed on a beloved film — here comes the sequel!
According to a new report from Puck, things are beginning to come together on a planned “The Devil Wears Prada” sequel. Not only is original producer Wendy Finerman back, but she has convinced Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt to return as well. There’s no word on whether or not Anne Hathaway will make a return yet. Also coming back for seconds is screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna.
The report claims the story will focus on Streep’s character, Miranda Priestly, as she approaches the end of her career, in an industry that is dying. She is then put into a rivalry with her former assistant, Emily Charlton (played by Blunt). If this is correct, it really doesn’t seem like there would be much need for Hathaway in the film, other than for potential fan service.
Now, we have to be careful about thinking this is a done deal. If there’s not even a script yet, there is still quite a bit of work that is to be done before a ‘Devil Wears Prada’ sequel is given the greenlight. That said, it does appear like it’s happening, and fans of the original will get to see what’s next for those characters.
Man, Hollywood really does love sequels, huh?
