Disney Dates 'Mandalorian & Grogu,' 'Toy Story 5' & Live-Action 'Moana' For Summer 2026

CinemaCon begins next Monday, and Disney has a tease for what fans should expect during their presentation next week. The studio now has official theatrical release dates for a handful of upcoming films, including Lucasfilm‘s first “Star Wars” movie in theaters since 2019. Read on to discover what gets released and when.

Jon Favreau‘s “The Mandalorian & Grogu will hit big screens everywhere on May 22, 2026. It’s a premiere spot for film, and the first “Star Wars” film to hit theaters on Memorial Day weekend since “Solo: A Star Wars Story” in 2018. And it’s worth noting that the only competition for Favreau’s film is “Avengers 5,” currently slated to hit theaters on May 1, 2026. Of course, that’s subject to change, as MCU may need more time to rewrite their stories after Jonathan Majors‘ firing soiled their big Kang plans. Still, it’s a premiere release date for what Disney hopes (and in Lucasfilm’s case, needs) will be a return to form for the “Star Wars” franchise theatrically. This date shows the studios are high on Favreau’s film and they expect fans to be, too.

Note that Disney/Lucasfilm also has an untitled “Star Wars” film slated for December 18, 2026. Is that Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy‘s movie about Rey’s new Jedi order? That film debuting first of the three announced at Star Wars Celebration last year was the plan before “The Mandalorian & Grogu,” but there’s no confirmation yet.

Up next, “Toy Story 5” is the untitled Pixar movie that was already slated for a June 19, 2026 theater bow. No surprise there: Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed another “Toy Story” sequel last February, hoping the franchise will steady the Pixar ship. And in a schedule shift, the live-action “Moana” moves from June 27, 2025 to July 10, 2026. That’s like due to “Moana 2” hitting theaters this Thanksgiving and Disney wanting to spread their calendar out.

There’s a handful of other new dates and schedule changes, too. “The Amateur” moves from November 8, 2024 to April 11, 2025 for 20th Century.  Searchlight‘s Nightbitch will hit theaters on December 6, as announced this morning. And Tron: Ares is the previously untitled Disney film dated for October 10, 2025. In addition, Disney removes an untitled project previously dated for a July 10, 2026 release.

Expect updates on several of these projects at Disney’s presentation at CinemaCon next week on April 11.
