Got a Tip?

Disney+ Will Officially Stream The Netflix/Marvel TV Series As Company Announces New Parental Controls

Since the debut of Disney+ back in 2019, there has been this understanding that family-friendly content goes to that platform, while more mature content goes to the sister streamer, Hulu. But then Netflix lost the rights to the adult-oriented Marvel TV series such as “Daredevil,” “Luke Cage,” “The Punisher,” and more, and suddenly, the Mouse House is ready to bend the rules about what content ends up where just a little bit.

According to Disney, the streaming platform Disney+ is going to receive all of the recently freed up Netflix/Marvel TV series, “Daredevil,” “Luke Cage,” “Jessica Jones,” “Iron Fist,” “The Defenders,” and “The Punisher,” in addition to the ABC series, “Agents of SHIELD.” But if you’re a parent and you’re concerned about your little Marvel-obsessed kiddo getting access to the decidedly adult content, never fear! Disney+ is now going to feature revised parental controls, which will make it more difficult for children to gain access to this material.

“Disney+ has served as the home for some of the most beloved brands in the industry, and the addition of these live-action shows brings more from the Marvel brand together, all in one place,” said Michael Paull, President of Disney Streaming. “We have experienced great success with an expanded content offering on Disney+ across our global markets and are excited to continue that here in the U.S. as well by offering our consumers not only great content with the new Marvel additions, but also a set of features that help ensure a viewing experience most suitable for them and their family.”

When it was announced that Netflix was losing the distribution rights to the Marvel TV series, there was confusion about where those shows might end up. As mentioned, adult content has been given to Hulu and Disney+ has remained very family-friendly. But the chance to continue to house all of the Marvel content under the Disney+ umbrella was clearly too enticing for the company to pass up. Now, since the seal has been broken, perhaps we can see more adult-oriented content end up on Disney+, with Hulu not being the de-facto location in the future.

Those Marvel TV shows, including “Agents of SHIELD,” are expected to arrive on Disney+ on March 16.
