Got a Tip?

Distributors A24 Pick Up Sofia Coppola’s ‘The Bling Ring,’ Slated For June Release

nullYou can't really argue the taste of up-and-coming film distributors A24. They've just released their first film, Roman Coppola's "A Glimpse Inside The Mind Of Charles Swan III," and their upcoming slate includes Harmony Korine's "Spring Breakers" and Sally Potter's "Ginger & Rosa." And they are continuing to put their attention on auteur driven work by nabbing one of the most anticipated films of the year (at least for us).

A24 has acquired the rights to Sofia Coppola's "The Bling Ring." As you already know, the film stars Emma Watson alongside a group of smaller names– Israel Broussard, Katie Chang, Claire Pfister, Georgia Rock and Carlos Miranda (and Leslie Mann has a role too) — in the based-on-a-true-story tale of a group of affluent teenagers who pulled off some brazen heists of celebrity homes, taking up to $3 million worth of goods. Going for authenticity it seems, The Wrap reveals that some scenes were filmed in the homes of the actual victims — Lindsay Lohan, Rachel Bilson, Megan Fox and Orlando Bloom were among them. Paris Hilton, also a victim, is confirmed for a cameo role (but no word yet on Kirsten Dunst or Gavin Rossdale who were also snapped on the set).

The film will land stateside in June, which makes sense given it was recently a a summer release, at least for France. Could the movie hit the Cannes Film Festival first? Perhaps Out Of Competition? Given the helmer and cast, we wouldn't rule it out. Either way, we're curious to see what looks like Coppola's most lighthearted effort yet. Here's the official synopsis:

THE BLING RING shows a group of teenagers obsessed with fashion and fame who burglarized the homes of celebrities in Los Angeles. Tracking their targets’ whereabouts online, the teens would break-in and steal designer clothes and possessions. Reflecting on the naiveté of youth, amplified by today’s culture of celebrity and luxury brand obsession, the members of the Bling Ring introduce us to temptations that nearly any teenager would find hard to resist. What starts out as youthful fun spins out of control and reveals a sobering view of our modern culture.
