Going in front of cameras earlier this year, Sofia Coppola's next effort "The Bling Ring" has been flying a bit under the radar. While there have been some official stills, we've mostly had to make out what we can of the movie from the various set photos, but as 2012 winds down and we look ahead to 2013, we will definitely start to see more.
Premiere magazine has a couple new snaps of Emma Watson in the film and they are certainly less playful and more sombre than what we've seen before. The actress leads the cast of mostly lesser known talent — Israel Broussard, Katie Chang, Claire Pfister, Georgia Rock and Carlos Miranda (and Leslie Mann has a role too) — in the based-on-a-true-story tale of a group of affluent teenagers who pulled off some brazen heists of celebrity homes, taking up to $3 million worth of goods. Kirsten Dunst, Gavin Rossdale and Paris Hilton (one of the victims of the group) have been tipped for cameos as well, and the film is coming soon.
The French movie magazine reveals that a release date in June 2013 has been set for the movie, but we presume that's in France and/or Europe only. It should be noted that the picture doesn't have a U.S. distribution deal in place yet. That timing seems to suggest that this might be one to watch out for at the Cannes Film Festival in May. Either way, this one is nearing the finish line, and with Coppola husband Thomas Mars' band Phoenix releasing a new album in April, it's going to be a very busy 2013 for the pair. [SnitchSeeker]
