This landed in our inbox today and piqued our interest. “Reel Injun: On The Trail Of The Hollywood Indian” is a Canadian documentary that weaves together interviews and film clips to explore the issue of Native American representation (or lack thereof) in Hollywood.
Cree filmmaker Neil Diamond has lined up a pretty solid group of subjects including Clint Eastwood, Jim Jarmusch, Robbie Robertson and Adam Beach. The subject is certainly an interesting one, but as the trailer below reveals, Diamond approaches it with the right blend of humor and levity.
The film starts doing the arthouse rounds in Canada this month, and will be premiering at SXSW next week, where the filmmakers hope to make an announcement regarding US distribution. But even it it doesn’t hit theaters, the film will find its way to PBS next fall.
