‘Hallow Road’ Trailer: Rosamund Pike & Matthew Rhys Star In An Unnerving Family Thriller From Director Babak Anvari

Ever since British-Iranian BAFTA-winning filmmaker Babak Anvari burst onto the scene with the chilling 2016 horror “Under The Shadow,” he’s been working consistently since, collaborating with Armie Hammer (“Wounds”) and George MacKay and Hugh Bonneville (“I Came By”). While he’s also developing an untitled “Cloverfield” movie, his latest is the gripping new psychological thriller “Hallow Road.”

Starring Academy Award-nominated Rosamund Pike (“Gone Girl,” “Saltburn“) and Emmy-winner Matthew Rhys (“The Americans“), the film centers on a pair of parents thrust into a nightmarish ordeal after receiving a distressing late-night phone call from their daughter, who has just caused a tragic car accident.

Fresh from a buzz-worthy world premiere at the SXSW Film Festival, the official “Hallow Road” trailer has arrived before its U.S. theatrical release this fall.

Here’s the official synopsis:

Following the chilling footsteps of his Sundance breakout Under the Shadow, Anvari reunites with longtime collaborators at Two & Two Pictures and XYZ Films to deliver another atmospheric, emotionally intense ride. “Hallow Road” stars Rosamund Pike (Gone Girl, Saltburn) and Matthew Rhys (The Americans) as parents plunged into a waking nightmare after a late-night call from their daughter triggers a night-long descent into dread.

Megan McDonnell (“Normal People”) co-stars, rounding out a cast that brings quiet intensity to William Gillies’ suspenseful screenplay. The film explores themes of guilt, parental fear, and the uncanny, slowly unraveling its mystery in real time.

Produced by Lucan Toh (Two & Two Pictures), Ian Henry (London Film & TV), and XYZ Films, and financed by IPR.VC and Screen Ireland, “Hallow Road” is a continuation of Anvari’s collaboration with XYZ, which also backed his previous titles “Under the Shadow,” “Wounds,” and “I Came By.”

Following a successful U.K. release by Universal Pictures on May 16, “Hallow Road” is set to hit theaters across the U.S. this fall. Watch the trailer below.
