‘Dune: Prophecy’ Season 2 Adds Indira Varma, Ashley Walters & Tom Hollander To HBO Spinoff Series

Filming has begun on the second season of HBO‘s “Dune: Prophecy,” a prequel spinoff series connected to the world of Denis Villeneuve‘s “Dune” trilogy, and the sci-fi fantasy project has added three actors to the call sheet.

Those names include Indira Varma (“Rome,” Game of Thrones,” “Obi-Wan Kenobi”), Ashley Walters (a key player in the recent Netflix Emmy-winner “Adolescence“), and veteran actor Tom Hollander (“Hanna”), according to a report from Variety dishing about the new additions.

Alison Schapker is set as showrunner for the second round of episodes for “Dune: Prophecy” with an extensive returning cast featuring Emily Watson, Olivia Williams, Travis Fimmel, Jodhi May, Sarah-Sofie Boussnina, Josh Heuston, Chloe Lea, Jade Anouka, Faoileann Cunningham, Edward Davis, Aoife Hinds, Chris Mason, Shalom Brune-Franklin, Jessica Barden, Emma Canning, Yerin Ha, Barbara Marten, and Tessa Bonham Jones. Production on the series is said to be taking place in Hungary, Spain, and Jordan.

The HBO spinoff takes place 10,000 years before the saga of Paul Atreides (played by Timothée Chalamet), explored in the trilogy of feature films helmed by Villeneuve. Season 1 follows “two Harkonnen sisters as they combat forces that threaten the future of humankind, and establish the fabled order that will become known as the Bene Gesserit,” and is loosely inspired by the subsequent novels (“The Sisterhood of Dune” penned by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson) from the expanded universe/lore of “Dune” created by the late visionary author Frank Herbert.

While there is an expectation that season two of “Dune Prophecy” could be ready sometime between late 2026 and 2027, Warner Bros. has set the official theatrical release date for “Dune: Part Three” (an adaptation of Herbert’s second book, “Dune Messiah“) on December 18, 2026, and would likely be happy with some breathing room between the two “Dune” projects.
