If you didn’t see last year’s “Cyrus” directed by Jay and Mark Duplass and starring Jonah Hill, do yourself a favor and catch up with it. Darkly funny and surprisingly moving it was a big leap forward for actor and directors alike and the trio are hoping to catch fire once again.
24 Frames reveals that a script is now making the rounds of Hollywood offices that the directing pair are looking to make with Jonah Hill in the lead. Bear in mind, it’s early stages and nothing is official, but it sounds pretty damn good. Described as a “dramatic thriller” “Pitchfork” revolves around “the middle-aged mother of an indie rocker who, after her son is killed in a car accident, seeks vengeance on an online blogger who had peddled snark about him. Things take a turn, though, when she finds out the snarker is just a teenager.” And in case you were wondering, the title is no coincidence as the blogger writes for the titular hipster music site.
Obviously, Hill would take the role of the blogger while Susan Sarandon is being eyed for the mother, but again, this is all very, very early days so we’ll see how everything plays out. Meanwhile, the brothers have a film locked, loaded and ready to go — the Ed Helms and Jason Segel vehicle “Jeff Who Lives At Home.” Earlier in the year, we spoke with Katie Asleton — wife of Mark Duplass and a filmmaker in her own right — who revealed it was still being edited. 24 Frames says it will be coming later this year, but considering there are six months left in 2011 with no release date scheduled, we think Paramount may push it to an early 2012 bow with a TIFF or Sundance premiere to precede it.
But exciting things on the horizon, and we’re glad to see the Duplass duo inching into new territory.
