Dwayne Johnson Teaming Up With J.J. Abrams For A New Mystery Film

Over the course of his career, filmmaker J.J. Abrams has only directed one feature that wasn’t already attached to a franchise. That film is 2011’s “Super 8.” And it would appear he might have another one coming soon, as was teased by none other than Dwayne Johnson.

In a post on Instagram, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson shared an image of himself sitting with J.J. Abrams and writer Zak Penn, teasing a new project that will be made by the trio. He didn’t share any specifics about the plot, unfortunately.

Johnson wrote on Instagram, “Years in the making – we finally broke bread, we drank, we laughed, got a lil’ drunk (maybe that was just me 🙋🏽‍♂️) we talked life stuff, love stuff, dude stuff and took our time chopping up our passion for movies and storytelling. Then we all raised a glass and toasted to….yup, this one is gonna be fun.”

Of course, we’re just speculating that this is a film that will be an original idea and not some franchise thing. When you’re talking about Johnson and Abrams, there is never the guarantee that this isn’t some sort of franchise film. However, with Johnson seemingly done with superhero stuff, and Abrams burned by the “Star Wars” experience, it would make sense that these two might want to try something a bit different.

We also don’t know when we might see this film come to theaters. Clearly, this is in the early stages, but perhaps we’ll find out more sooner than later.
