As seen in the new trailer, “Earth Mama” tells the story of Gia, a young, pregnant single mother who is fighting to keep her family together after her first two kids are put in foster care. Though she has a tight-knit community, the young pregnant woman has to fight against the system in an attempt to do what’s best for herself and her kids, making incredibly difficult choices along the way. “Earth Mama” is the debut feature from director Savanah Leaf. The film stars Tia Nomore, Erika Alexander, Doechii, Sharon Duncan-Brewster, Dominic Fike, and Bokeem Woodbine.

We saw a screening of “Earth Mama” at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, and in our review, we said, “Sometimes Leaf asks us to see too much. But ‘Earth Mama’ is grounded enough and empathetic enough to be worth the bleak toll it exacts.”

“Earth Mama” arrives in theaters on July 7 via A24 Films. You can watch the trailer below.
