Ever since it was announced that HBO would be moving on with “True Detective” without the help of series creator Nic Pizzolatto, people have been wondering what the filmmaker would be doing next. Well, it appears Pizzolatto has found his next project, “Easy’s Waltz,” and it’s about as anti-“True Detective” as possible.
According to Deadline, Nic Pizzolatto is set to write and direct the indie drama, “Easy’s Waltz.” Not only that, he’s also found his main cast, as Vince Vaughn, Michelle Monaghan, Al Pacino, and Simon Rex have all been signed. The report claims the film is described as “Swingers” meets “A Star is Born” and follows the story of a comedian/crooner who has seen better days as he navigates a modern Las Vegas.
As mentioned, Pizzolatto is probably best known as the creator and showrunner of HBO’s hit crime drama, “True Detective.” He’s also the screenwriter for films such as “The Magnificent Seven” remake, “Galveston,” and “The Guilty.” The new drama, “Easy’s Waltz,” marks Pizzolatto’s feature film directorial debut.
As for the cast, each one of them is a recognizable name in Hollywood. Al Pacino is, well, Al Pacino. Vince Vaughn is likely the perfect guy to play a down-on-his-luck comedian/crooner, and he recently got the chance to work alongside Michelle Monaghan in the Apple TV+ series, “Bad Monkey.” Simon Rex, on the other hand, isn’t as much of a household name, but he is coming off a breakout performance in the indie drama, “Red Rocket.”
There’s no word, yet, on when we might see production start on “Easy’s Waltz.” However, with Pizzolatto attached and this cast all signed, this film is definitely one to keep an eye on.
