Got a Tip?

Edward Berger Denies Rumors About Directing New James Bond Film: “That’s An Absolute Rumor”

Almost as intriguing as the rumors flying around about who the next James Bond actor will be next is the speculation about who will helm the eventual film. Names like Christopher Nolan and Denis Villeneuve always come up. But lately, the director’s name who gets brought up most often is Edward Berger. And that’s something he’d like to rectify.

Speaking to Deadline, as he world premieres his new film, “Conclave,” Edward Berger was asked the million-dollar question — will he be the next director in the James Bond franchise. The answer? Well, let’s just say it’s an emphatic no. Not only that, he hopes people will start spreading the news so the “fire” gets put out.

“That’s an absolute rumor. There’s no truth to it whatsoever,” said Berger. “I would be very grateful if you put out that fire.”

Berger really broke out in a big way after the massive acclaim surrounding “All Quiet on the Western Front.” That film won the Best International Film Oscar. Now, with “Conclave,” it looks like Berger has another runaway hit on his hands.

As mentioned, there are a lot of questions surrounding the James Bond franchise right now. Longtime 007 producer Barbara Broccoli has remained mum about who might lead the franchise, both in front of and behind the camera. However, it’s already been three years since the last Bond film, and fans are starting to grow a bit impatient.
