Got a Tip?

Elijah Wood To Star In Remake Of 1980 Splatter Flick ‘Maniac’

It looks like Elijah Wood is ready to get back in touch with his evil side. After surprising many with his turn as the silent Kevin in "Sin City," the actor will followup his time in the shire by killing some people. Cinematically speaking, of course.

First reported by Bloody Disgusting and now confirmed by Deadline, Wood is taking the lead in a remake of the William Lustig's 1980 cult film "Maniac." He'll take the lead role in the film penned by remake maestro Alexandre Aja ("The Hills Have Eyes," "Piranha 3D") and Grégory Levasseur, in the updated story that will now center on a guy who sells antique mannequins (?!?!), who also happens to be deranged serial killer who finds his victims on the Internet, and scalps 'em. Oh yeah, there is also some mumbo jumbo about him being abused by his mother or something to give him a reason to draw blood.

Franck Khalfoun, the guy who directed two movies you didn't see "P2" and "Wrong Turn At Tahoe," is helming so don't expect this to be the most cerebral exercise. It all seems pretty calculated to make sure that Wood isn't locked into nice guy roles for the rest of his life as the world once again becomes reacquainted with him as Frodo for the next couple of years, so we guess we can't blame the guy. Blood Disgusting also notes that "Safe House" star Nora Arnezeder — the one grinding herself all up in Ryan Reynolds' bizness in that recent trailer — is also part of the cast.

Shooting will get under way before the end of the year.
