Got a Tip?

Elizabeth Olsen & Josh Radnor Go To School For ‘Liberal Arts’

‘How I Met Your Mother’ Star Will Direct & Star Based On His Script

The Sundance Film Festival is good to a lot of people, but no one seems to benefit more than rising new stars on the independent film scene.

Two of those stars, Josh Radnor and Elizabeth Olsen, are teaming for “Liberal Arts,” THR reports. Radnor will direct and star alongside Olsen from a script he wrote, and the picture focuses on a 35-year-old man who can’t leave his college life behind as he comes to grips with the responsibilities of adulthood. Olsen will play a teenaged college student who falls for Radnor’s character over their mutual love of music and literature, but their difference in age starts to get in the way as Radnor’s character moves farther away from a hedonistic lifestyle. Plans are to start shooting this spring, while Radnor is on hiatus from his hit television show “How I Met Your Mother” on CBS.

Tom Sawyer Entertainment and BCDF Pictures are producing, and Sawyer was behind Radnor’s 2010 Sundance hit “Happythankyoumoreplease,” an indie film that was released just a couple of weeks ago.

Olsen broke out of Sundance this year after starring in the cult drama “Martha Marcy May Marlene“; our reviewer was bowled over by it, and even those that gave the film a lukewarm review still praised the pants off Olsen. Fox Searchlight snatched up the picture tout de suite. Olsen will finish shooting “Red Lights” in Barcelona opposite Robert De Niro and Sigourney Weaver and then head back to get started on “Liberal Arts.” Sounds like an indie match made in heaven to us.
