Director Will Also Be The Subject Of A 3-Hour ‘American Masters’ Documentary This Fall
Yes, we know. Jesse Eisenberg has a niche having played a neurotic teenager in “Roger Dodger,” a neurotic apocalypse-survivor in “Zombieland,” a neurotic billionaire in “The Social Network” and a neurotic parrot in this Friday’s “Rio” and while his superfans might want him to stretch his wings a bit, the actor knows his sweet spot and you simply don’t turn down an opportunity to work with one of the giants of cinema.
Variety has confirmed, following suggestions earlier this week, that Eisenberg has joined Woody Allen‘s next film and not only that, Ellen Page has come aboard as well. The two young thesps will join Penelope Cruz and Alec Baldwin in the film which you won’t know the plot of until Woody Allen feels like telling you. It will probably involve a transplanted American in a foreign city with romantic mishaps along the way. But you know what? That’s fine by us. We’re pretty excited to see Eisenberg and Page jump into Woody’s world and we think it could be a great fit for their sensibilities.
But that’s not all. Allen will also get up close and personal with PBS for a 3-hour “American Masters” documentary set to air this fall. Directed by Robert Weide (“How To Lose Friends And Alienate People,” “Lenny Bruce: Swear to Tell the Truth“), it goes behind the scenes with Allen into his home, onto his film sets, and even to his childhood haunts in Brooklyn in what promises to be an exhaustive look at a director who generally keeps his personal life, well, personal.
So lots on the horizon for Woody Allen fans including his latest, “Midnight In Paris,” which opens the Cannes Film Festival on May 11th.
