The Oscars are now just a week away and Sunday provided three guild award ceremonies to provide hints at who may take away Hollywood’s most prestigious prizes. The Daniels’ “Everything Everywhere All At Once” continued its winning streak at the ACE Eddie Awards for editing and the WGA Award for screenplay, but they didn’t complete the trifecta at the ASC Awards. That’s because they never made the cut with the American Society of Cinematographers in the first place (and Larkin Seiple didn’t earn an Oscar nomination either). Instead, the top prize at the ASC Awards, for Theatrical Feature Film, went to Mandy Walker for “Elvis.”
Walker made history as the first woman in the 37-year history of the ASC Awards to take the film honor. Yes, that’s not a misprint, the first female winner in thirty-seven years. Let that sink in.
In other honors, the increasingly prestigious Spotlight Award went to Sturla Brandth Grøvlen for “War Soldier.” The Half-Hour Series award went to Carl Herse for “Barry.” It was a rare double win for FX’s “The Old Man” as Jules O’Loughlin took the One-Hour Commercial Television Series honor and Sean Porter also took the Pilot, Limited Series or Motion Picture Made For Television award. The One-Hour Non-Commercial Television Series went to M. David Mullen for “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.”
In absolutely no surprise, Ben Bernhard and Riju Das took the Documentary Award for “All That Breathes.”
