After two wildfire-related delays, the 97th Academy Awards nominations were finally revealed. On hand to announce the chosen few were Bowen Yang and Rachel Sennott. The big winner of the morning? Jacques Audiard’s “Emilia Perez” with a stunning 13 Oscars nominations. “Wicked” and “The Brutalist” followed with 10 each.

All three films made the Best Picture field alongside “A Complete Unknown,” “Anora,” “Conclave,” “Dune: Part Two,” “Nickel Boys,” “The Substance,” “Wicked,” and in a big surprise, “I’m Still Here.” This is the first time since 2012 that three world premieres from the Cannes Film Festival were nominated for Best Picture.
Notable nominees included “Emilia Perez” herself, Karla Sofía Gascón, who became the first trans woman or person ever nominated for an acting Academy Award. Audiard’s musical also came just one nomination short of tying the record number of Oscar nominations for one film, 14.
“The Brutalist’s” Guy Pearce earned his first nomination in the Supporting Actor category after three decades in the business. He previously starred in Best Picture nominee “L.A. Confidential” and 2010 winner “The Hurt Locker.”
And, yes, Dianne Warren earned yet another nomination, her 16th. This time for her Original Song “The Journey” for “The Six Triple Eight.” The ballad is a collaboration with H.E.R. who won this category in 2021.
After four decades as a working actor, Demi Moore earned her first Oscar nomination in the Best Actress category for “The Substance.” She previously appeared in Best Picture nominees “Ghost” and “A Few Good Men.”
Both Kieran Culkin and Jeremy Strong were nominated in the Supporting Actor category for “A Real Pain” and “The Apprentice,” respectively. The “Succession” co-stars faced off for the Lead Actor in a Drama Series Emmy a little over a year ago (Culkin won).
“Flow” became just the second film after “Flee” to earn a nomination in both the International Film and Animated Feature categories.
