Exclusive: Scams & Cans In Clip From SXSW & Spirit Award Winning ‘Gimme The Loot’

nullFor his debut feature “Gimme The Loot,” writer/director Adam Leon could not have asked for things to go better. After premiering at the SXSW Film Festival in 2012 where it won the the Grand Jury prize for Best Narrative Feature, the movie took off, hitting Cannes, London, Deauville and more in a ’round the world journey on the festival circuit that culminated with a win at the Spirit Awards, with Leon earning Someone To Watch Honors. Oh, and that’s not all — now, as the film is gearing up to hit theaters, it has earned the stamp of Jonathan Demme, who will officially present “Gimme The Loot.”

So what’s the movie about? It’s quite a simple story, following teenagers Malcolm and Sofia, graffiti-writers in the Bronx who are hustling to raise $500 to help finance their street art masterpiece: tagging the New York Mets’ home run apple. And as you can see in this exclusive clip, everyone has their own game to play. In the sequence, Sofia goes to pick up her cans from a local tough guy, and learns he’s got his own scheme going again as well. It’s a nicely breezy and charming taste of the film.

“Gimme The Loot” opens this weekend in New York City — check out dates and showtimes here — and will roll out in the weeks to come. Check out the clip below.
