Got a Tip?

Exclusive: Trailer For Apocalyptic Slamdance Entry ‘Best Friends Forever’

nullFor some, continuing to call the Sundance Film Festival "indie" given the huge stars, swag bags, parties and more that mark each year in Park City, is a bit of joke. But for those looking for some truly independent cinema, films that feature actors, actresses, writers and directors who are truly looking for a leg up, the Slamdance Flim Festival is the place. Overlapping with the festivities at Sundance, Slamdance will have a plethora of offerings on display, and one movie hoping to rise above the noise is "Best Friends Forever." But don't let that title deceive you.

Written by and starring Brea Grant ("Heroes," "Dexter") and Vera Miao ("CSI: Miami," "Brothers & Sisters"), with Grant making her directing debut, this dark comedy/apocalyptic disaster story follows Harriet (Grant), a perpetually optimistic comic-book artist who leaves Los Angeles and hits the road for a new life in Austin, Texas, bringing her seemingly devil-may-care BFF Reba (Miao) along for the ride. However, following a nuclear explosion, the girls are forced to answer some big questions about their lives. And in this exclusive trailer, you get a great sense of the mix of tones in the film, where the peril is very real as it aims for laughs and chills in equal measure.

"Best Friends Forever" will have its first screening at Slamdance on Saturday, January 19th. Watch the trailer below.
