Well, this is pretty cool. Back in 1986 X frontwoman Exene Cervenka got together with filmmaker Modi Frank and decided to make a film in tribute to the cow-punk and roots-rock scenes that were bustling with energy in Southern California.
For the twenty minute silent film western, they got together a pretty impressive lineup of people. John Doe (X), writer-poet Doug Knott, Chris Desjardins (The Flesheaters), Dave Alvin (Blasters), Michael Blake (Academy Award winning scribe of “Dances With Wolves”) and a little known actor named Kevin Costner.
The film is currently available as a pay-what-you-want download from the film’s official website with all proceeds going to Committee for Plaquemines Recovery, a Gulf Coast aid organization. The trailer is below–it looks like some lo-fi fun and it’s all for a good cause. [ONTD]
