'Deadpool 2' Director Confirms Extended Cut Is On The Way With More Domino

Deadpool 2” fans are in for a treat. According to the film’s director, there’s an extended version of the film on the horizon.

“Deadpool 2” clocks in at just under two hours. Honestly, compared to most superhero films that runtime almost qualifies the “Deadpool 2” as a short film. “Avengers: Infinity War” was a whopping two hours and 32 minutes. The extended cut of ‘Batman v Superman’ punishes viewers for 181 minutes. It’s common nowadays for the average superhero epic to clock in at almost two-and-a-half hours. At 119 minutes, “Deadpool 2” maintains the story and a captive audience. Mixing fast-paced jokes with a ton of heart, which is what made the first film so popular.

Recently, CinemaBlend sat down with “Deadpool 2” director David Leitch to talk about the film’s modest run time. Leitch revealed there is an extended cut of the sequel. And low and behold, it runs over two hours. With an 83 day shoot, Leitch and company had a lot of material to work with. But he was insistent that the extended cut would come in just over two hours.

On the subject, Leitch said, “…I kept telling the studio, and I kept telling Ryan [Reynolds], I’m like, ‘No, the director’s cut going to come in at like 2:12.’ And he’s like, ‘No way!’ And I’m like, ‘It is! It’s going to come in at 2:12. I want to make it tight. I want you guys to get a really tight first look at the film. I don’t think it needs to be bloated and I’m not that type of filmmaker.'”

Included in the extended edition are more suicide attempts by Deadpool, as well as some more much-needed screen time for Domino. There’s also an extended X-Mansion scene in the cut. Obviously, there’s some more bloodshed here and there. Even some quips that weren’t in the theatrical release. More jabs at the DC Universe? Who knows, but probably. Overall, we’re looking forward to seeing what wild inappropriateness is in store for those additional 12 minutes.

“Deadpool 2” is out now in theaters everywhere.
