Got a Tip?

‘Fast 9’ Might Finally Take The Franchise To Space, Or So Teases Ludacris

There are undeniable facts in the movie world, “Mad Max: Fury Road” is a perfect movie, “A Cure For Wellness” should have been a bigger hit, and the “Fast and Furious” franchise needs to go to space at one point. Well, it turns out that wish may soon become a reality, if we are to believe “F9” star Ludacris.

The news comes from SiriusXM’s The Jess Cagle Show (via The Hollywood Reporter) where co-host Julia Cunningham put into words what we are all thinking, and talked about how the blockbuster franchise could keep topping itself. Among her ideas was the franchise going to space, and Ludacris seemed to imply Cunningham isn’t so far off “I will say that you are very intuitive, because you said something right, but I’m not going to give it away,” the actor said.

According to the report, when Cunningham tried to get Ludacris to elaborate, Ludacris covered his mouth as if he just let out a big secret, and then played coy. “I don’t know. I don’t know what you said.”

For years it’s been rumored that the only way forward for the “Fast and Furious” franchise is to go to space, first as a joke and recently as a serious thought. As recently as last year, series screenwriter Chris Morgan teased that a space adventure was not entirely out of the question. “I will say — what’s the best way to answer this? — you’ll have to wait and see,” the writer told THR at the time. Listen, as long as the stakes were set up correctly, then I’m down for whatever.”

Sadly, we’re going to have to wait a bit longer to see if Dominic Toretto drives his Dodge Charger director into the moon. “F9” got pushed back by Universal from its May 2020 release date to April 2021 due to the ongoing pandemic.
