As discussed with the recent trailer for “The Photograph,” this Valentine’s Day, couples are going to be presented with quite a few options at the multiplex. The trailer for “Fantasy Island” shows the difference between the new film re-imagining and the classic ‘70s TV series that the adaptation is based on. Instead of a weekly series that showcases a mysterious island that can make your fantasies come true, with a bit of a moral lesson thrown in for good measure, the Blumhouse film takes that premise and shows how morally bankrupt and terrible humans are, with fantasies about torture and general mayhem. But hey, you gotta get those teens in the seats somehow, right?

The cast includes Michael Peña, Maggie Q, Lucy Hale, Austin Stowell, Portia Doubleday, Jimmy O. Yang, Ryan Hansen, and Michael Rooker. The film is directed by Jeff Wadlow, who co-wrote the script along with Chris Roach and Jillian Jacobs. Wadlow is probably best known for his films “Cry Wolf,” “Never Back Down,” and “Kick-Ass 2.” His first collaboration with Blumhouse was 2018’s “Truth or Dare.”

“Fantasy Island” arrives in theaters on February 14.
