I keep forgetting "Warcraft" is a thing that is happening this summer. To be honest, I can barely muster much enthusiasm for this movie about CGI beasts running at each other for some reason, but who knows, maybe it’ll be great? But for right now, it really feels like we’ve seen a lot of this stuff in other movies.
Winged beasts, fantastical creatures, epic CGI sets, glossy special effects, portentous dialogue — it’s all here, and packed to the gills in this new trailer, but what’s the actual story? Seems to be your standard the-world-must-be-saved stuff, but it feels pretty worn over. At the very least, it doesn’t seem like it’s based on a videogame, though I’m sure there are plenty of winks and nods for gamers who buy a ticket.
"Warcraft" opens on June 10th.
