After four successful “LEGO” movies at Warner Bros.— “The Lego Movie,” “The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part,” “Lego Batman,” and the “Lego Ninjago Movie”— Universal, who signed a five-year deal to make films between 2020 and 2025, are taking a crack at it finally.

Today, Universal announced that it is making three untitled live-action movies with directors Jake Kasdan, Patty Jenkins, and “Attack the Block” filmmaker Joe Cornish. And if it isn’t obvious, Universal signed this deal ages ago, didn’t make any films, and the deal is almost up, so by announcing intentions to make three films before the clock runs out on their LEGO deal, they’re still good to go for now (and yes, Warner Bros. still owns overall rights).
All movie details are under wraps, but at least there are some ideas brewing, and these are not just TBD placeholder attachments for now. Kasdan’s film will be based on a script by Andrew Mogel and Jarrad Paul (“The D Train,” “The Grinder”), itself based on an original idea and a previous draft by Matt Mider and Kevin Burrows (“The Pickup,” “Animal Friends”).
Kasdan is on quite the roll. His “Red One” film starring Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans hits cinemas on November 15. The just-announced “Jumanji 3,” which Kasdan will also direct, opens on December 11, 2026.
Jenkins’ Lego film is based on a script she wrote with former DC Entertainment President Geoff Johns (“Wonder Woman 1984,” and “The Flash” TV series). Cornish’s movie is being rewritten from a previous draft penned by Heather Anne Campbell (“Rick & Morty,” “One Punch Man”), which was taken treatment by Simon Rich (“Man Seeking Woman,” “Miracle Workers”).
And how do you do “live-action” LEGO movies instead of the CGI-stop-motion ones from the previous aforementioned films? Well, your guess is as good as ours there.
