'Fire Island' Trailer: Andrew Ahn Puts A Queer-Positive Spin On 'Pride & Prejudice' For Upcoming Summer Gay Rom-Com

If you live on the East Coast and are remotely queer-friendly or gay-savvy, you know that Fire Island outside of New York is a destination for gay culture in the summers. And that vacation setting is exactly the environment for “Fire Island,” a new Searchlight Pictures rom-com arriving on Hulu this summer.

Yes, once a theatrical title, it’s one of three films that Searchlight decided to premiere on Hulu now that the streaming wars are seriously heating up.

The film is directed by Andrew Ahn—known for his queer-friendly/queer-positive movies like “Spa Night” (2016), “Andy” (2010), and “Driveways” (2019)—and stars Joel Kim Booster, Bowen Yang, Margaret Cho, Conrad Ricamora, James Scully, Matt Rogers, Tomas Matos, Torian Miller, Nick Adams, Zane Phillips, Michael Graceffa, Peter Smith, and Bradley Gibson. Set in the Pines area of the Island, “Fire Island” is a modern-day queer rom-com inspired by Jane Austen’s “Pride and Prejudice.” The story centers around “two best friends who set out to have a legendary week-long summer vacation with the help of cheap rosé and a cadre of eclectic friends.”
